Abstract

The objective of this report is to present the common project of CARNet and Fhilosophy Faculty of Jesus «Through Philosophy With Dostoievski» attempting to reveal the basic theory concepts.

The opus of Fiodor Mihailovic Dostoievski has appeared to represent a good medium through which to establish a perspective on the entire theoretical system of philosophy, i.e. to make his opus the medium by which to approach not only philosophy but also other humanistic sciences within its framework. As the project is to represent the contribution not only to developing of educational methods in humanistic sciences but also to their advancement, it has appeared necessary to confront three serious challenges:

  • Above all, in scientific branches like philosophy distance learning has not yet become a familiar method of teaching, particularly not in Croatia;
  • The philosophy itself, as a scientific discipline, is of a descriptive character: it can hardly be brought down to formulas - it is intensively theoretical. Therefore it seems extremely important and interesting to apply distance learning method improving on it within philosophy framework; it does not represent only promoting best features of new technology in the field in which it has not yet become a reality for very good reasons, the challenge may even represent the feeedback: bring the great theoretical systems down to an easily understandable language and present philosophy in its basic connection with life. Abstract and less intelligible concepts that are the basis of all the humanistic sciences should be made clearer by the use of all the advantages of multimedia and new technologies. These new technologies and the basis of distance learning common to all branches of science represent the possibility for philosophy, as well as other theoretical sciences, to shake off their weaknesses as e.g. being inaccessible to wider circles of non-professionals, as new technologies can enable them to be presented in modern and adequate way, which will bring new strength to «traditional» teaching of all theoretical subjects.
  • As all the members of project team are the collaborators – lecturers on the faculties as well, with experience in the work with students, the project could pose a goal – not only to implement distance learning instruments and new technolgies on the specific area of interest, practically not only making obvious the advantages of such a «rencontre», but also developing new methodical approaches. This does not only apply to the subjects in the multimedial framework representing «atoms of knowledge» offered to the user to be adopted, but also to permanent possibility of testing the level of knowledge of every individual user in offered contents.

There are several advantages of this kind of learning for students: clear overview and non-stop accessibility to all kind of the relevant information; the possibility of self-examination that inform the student that she/he is ready to take a exam; the possibility of individual investigation of particular philosophy questions; reducing of the time needed for finding relevant information such as, for example, pronunciation of some Greek word; links to other relevant material on the Internet; an adaptability of the time of learning to every individual student.

We hope that by the session of the Conference the first sample entirety of the project (Philosophy of Religion) will be completed and will be presented to the Conference participants so that the theses presented in the report could be practically displayed.
