The Croatian higher education (HE) space is
highly disintegrated and heterogeneous. The current technologies
including latest information technology (IT) developments
could assist in promoting international standards in the HE
system if this would be recognised by the relevant authorities
and thus adequately supported. However, even if such a new
component would be integrated into the development strategy
of Croatian education, there remain many reasons that one
might question how they will affect the actual implementation.
The author brings out the positive and affirmative characteristics
of the virtual education arena in Croatia and confronts them
to the obvious obstacles and threats of the effective introduction
of virtual education in Croatia, but possibly in the wider
region as well.
