COMPUTER CLASSROOM A PLACE WHERE CHILDREN ACQUIRE BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

The authors present an example of computer classroom in primary school. The existing equipment of the classroom is presented as well as its use to implement the optional computer science programme in primary school covering pupils from grades 4th to 8th .

Considerations and experiences of computer science teacher introducing a completely new syllabus in primary school are presented. While discussing the issue a survey of current problems and serious troubles as well as proper solutions used in building, developing and using a practical network and Internet teaching environment is given.

Tecnological and organizational as well educational challenges of the project are discussed. There are few state schools equipped with quality computer equipment. Therefore the teachers are left to their own resources in purchasing hardware and software. Thus the presented classroom contains 18 different computers but they can serve their purpose with appropriate adjustments.

Current everyday activities in the class and pupils achievements resulting from eight years working, even with limited resources, are presented.

Future prospects and improvements, following the particular experiences of the school and teachers, are evaluated aiming at helping children to take full advantage of modern techonologies. Great personal involvement of teachers, pupils and their parents in implementing
