Rapid development in the field
of information technology completely changed the way that newspapers,
radio and television programs are made. We are facing new organisation
of information content, new structure of publication, and new
layout of information product. Journalists who tend to stay
or advance in their profession should know much more about information
technology. They should think about organisation of knowledge,
how to make the content searchable, which are means of travelling
through the content and its environment etc.
Already Web is the second most
important source for journalist in United States, and nearly
two thirds of journalist included in the poll use Internet every
single day during their work. Still there is a huge gap between
knowledge given in journalism schools, and need for "electronic
journalist" who should compose article with hypertext structure
in his mind, directing readers to sources where they can examine
and further evaluate original information.
Journalist already lives and
works in the "distributed environment", and they use different
forms of information gathering, processing and communication.
Internet should be ideal media for complex program of continuous
education and improvement in the filed of use of information
technology for journalists. They can learn WHEN, WHAT and WHERE
they want. This type of education should be based on interaction
and flexibility, and should enable individualised approach to
the knowledge.
The most important topics should
include Information Architecture, Multimedia Content for the
World Wide Web, Multimedia Design and Production, Multimedia
Graphic Design, Imaging, Visual Presentations and many others.
