Educational programmes for medical students, physicians, and other health care professionals in the field of medical genetics are in continuous development. They tend to incorporate new teaching techniques that will enable better understanding of this fast growing field of medicine. We present advantages and potential of modern computing in creating an on line interactive textbook of the basic principles of human genetics and their application in clinical practice. The use of multimedia presentation – text, video, animation, and picture makes this textbook user friendly, updated, illustrative and easily understandable source of information. E-mail provides closer connection between teachers and students without constrains of time and location. Links to major genetic databases and other medical genetic resources present on the Internet enable students to easily expand their knowledge according to their needs and interests.
