This two hour tutorial will give an overview about the LDAP information model, the naming model, the operational model and its extendability, the search capabilities, security mechanisms, acess control and replication. In addition an overview of LDAP implementations including the open source product OpenLDAP will be given. No particular knowledge is needed for the participants, but a general overview of Internet technology might be helpful. After this work shop the participants will understand the directory model and see in which fields it has advantages over traditional databases like relational databases .
