Electronic Signatures: Introduction and Applications

Wesna Hassler, A-SIT Secure Information Technology Center, Vienna, Austria

Vesna Hassler received her B. Sc. and M. Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering (Telecommunications) from the University of Zagreb in 1988 and 1991, respectively. From 1989 to 1992 she worked as an assistant researcher in the Department of Telecommunications at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing of the University of Zagreb.

From 1992 to 1996 she was assistant researcher at Graz University of Technology (TU Graz). In December 1995 she received a Ph.D. (Dr. techn.) in Computer Engineering and Communications (Telematik) from Graz University of Technology.

From June 1996 to May 2000 she worked as an assistant professor in the Information Systems Institute of the Technical University of Vienna (TU Vienna). In addition to teaching and research, she managed two Esprit projects, ARES (Architectural Reasoning for Embedded Systems, European IVth Framework Project #20477) and SPARTA (Security Policy Adaptation Reinforced Through Agents, IST #12637).
From September 1997 to September 1999 she participated as a consultant in a digital signature project of the leading Austrian banks (A-Trust).

From June 2000 she works for the Austrian Secure Information Technology Center (A-SIT, www.a-sit.at) founded by the Austrian Ministry of Finance, the Austrian National Bank, and the TU Graz. Her current interests include digital signatures, public key infrastructure, digital certificates, evaluation of secure products, and smart cards.

Vesna Hassler published a number of conference and journal papers as well as two books (Norwood, MA: Artech House; Security Fundamentals for E-Commerce in 2000, and Java Card for E-Payment Applications in 2001).
