AN EXAMPLE
OF BUSINESS PROCESS MANAGEMENT VIA INTERNET IN THE CIVIL ENGINEERING
INSTITUTE OF CROATIA
New business
environment and more dynamic business conditions are posing special
requirements towards companies willing to seize or keep an important
position on the marketplace. Electronic business (E-business)
and information technologies have become a prominent factor of
business process management integrating the marketplace into a
global structure which enables involvement of every business organization
that has embraced challenges of new technologies. The Civil Engineering
Institute of Croatia (IGH) is an institution which has embraced
the foregoing challenges. IGH is a full member of CARNet, performing
its professional activities through four locations: Zagreb, Osijek,
Rijeka and Split. Local area network between Zagreb and the three
regional units is realized by CARNet nodes in the foregoing towns
with the transmission speed of 2 Mbps.
The presentation
demonstrates the e-business solution by means of a software named
E-Work along with advantages provided by a new business management.
Special emphasis has been given to the Intranet/Extranet/Internet
concept, as well as to basic features of the programming solution,
such as integrability, user-friendliness and data and processes
safety. In case of a business process modification, the appropriate
software modifications will be easier to manage and more flexible
than the classic applications due to the fact that each business
procedure is treated as a separate unit.
Transition
to business process automation often implies re-organization of
certain parts of the existing business system, sometimes even
leading to business re-engineering. However, there are certain
newly emerged issues that have to be settled in compliance with
the legislation, e.g. electronic signature, storage of original
documents, etc.
In conclusion,
one should bear in mind that staff training is a continuous process
required for a proper and high-quality management of e-business.
