This paper analysis how the Internet is perceived in relation to more traditional means of communication and outlines some of the apparent paradoxes of this new media. A survey that was recently performed on 262 Croatian college students confirmed that Internet users can perceive both its advantages and disadvantages as a mass media in relation to television and press. Some of the contexts for Internet publishing are summarized on the basis of this empirical study. E-mail communication is also considered for its advantages and disadvantages. Particularly, it is examined how this booming e-technology and its use can create paradoxical situations and what are the demands for new skills and competencies before it can be utilized more effectively and harmlessly.
