Ms Vesna Vrga, Organization Committee Chair; Organizing a conference - what a challenge!
What was your role in the organization of CUC'99?
The official role I have on this conference is Organization Committee Chair. This function basically comprises different activities related to the organizational aspect of CUC'99. Coordination of technical support, sponsorship, room setup, marketing and public relations, contacts with participants, speakers, organization and coordination of info desk, etc.
How many people are involved in the organization of CUC'99?
It is difficult to say exactly how many are involved. In one way or another, everybody in CARNet is involved in some way. Each Organization Committee member is in charge of one aspect of organization and they have set up their teams to help them get the job done. Organization Committee Members are: Irena Majcan, in charge of the info desk and Conference Secretariat, Katarina Kantolić, in charge of the marketing and public relations, Miro Capan, in charge of the technical support, and of course the inevitable Miroslav Milinović, the Program Committee Chair who was in charge of the whole project - CUC'99. But we must not forget other colleagues, to name but a few:Anamarija Sorić, Karolina Horvatinčić, Anđelko Žigman, Gordana Cmigović, Igor Tešija, Dubravko Penezić, Zvonimir Zelenika, Hrvoje Miškulin, Bojan Jurgec, Heida Dögg Jónsdóttir, Vjeran Gomzi, Eduard Juras, Ivan Rako, Igor Velimirović, Nikolina Škunca, Mihaela Fudurić, Bojana Božanić and many others. We must also not forget our parters Globtour Zagreb, who are helping us with the financial management, organization and coordination of social events and our associates, professional kamerman Danijel Riđički and Dean Bjelinski, and all aur collegues in Regional Centres.
Are you satisfied with the way the organization is going so far?
I must say that I am pretty satisfied. So far, we have accomplished all we set out to do, and I hope that everything else will turn out as we planned. The feedback from participants are good so far, and I hope that the rest of conference program will fulfil their expectations.
How do you like being in charge of such and organization? Did you encounter any major problem?
I must say that organizing the first CARNet Users Conference was a big challenge for me personally. There was a lot of work to be done, but I am confident that we, as a team, are strong and capable enough to overcome any obstacles in our way to a successful and useful conference.
What do you expect form this conference?
I expect and hope that the particpants will be satisfied and motived to come next year because, after all we are organizing the conference for them. I also expect it to be a meaningful and fun event where people will learn, exchange ideas and experiences.
