Authors have noticed insufficient and inadequate use of CARNet
infrastructure and propose establishing of labs for knowledge
presentation that should be situated at all the faculties, according
to their specific needs.
Authors reckon that, aside from systematisation of informatics
staff at the University of Zagreb, support to Internet training
(Training the Trainers project of CARNet, partly CROSnet), a
permanent support to teachers and students should be provided
also in area of knowledge presentation.
Such labs would provide support, e.g.:
- in web publishing of all teaching related materials using
structured markup languages (such as MathML, ChemMl, VoiceML,
SMIL..) due to the fact that such (hyper)textual forms ease
the susceptibility to the content, searchability and transformability,
standardising archiving of materials.
- metadata orientation in directing and markup of course materials
- implementation of virtual web oriented remote classrooms (such
as TopClass in its version 3.1).
- interactive web based information kiosks located on campuses
(proof-of-concept by Mr. D.Bengez, T.Klenovar, M.Marijanoviæ,
Z.Pape¹), serving student community even when all the classrooms
and other facilities are closed. Such kiosks would serve users
universal informational, educational, library access and communicational
needs.
- in using more academic-community affordable Linux contents.
