Development of Technology and Potential Singularity
Mr Dalibor Vrsalović, Ph.D.,
Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, Croatia

Mr Dalibor Vrsalović, Ph.D. will explain today's leading theories on future technology development within the framework of general development of economy and society in the world. In the second part of the lecture he will present new computer technology achievements of advanced world laboratories and compare these results with the forecasts.

Lecturer's biography

Professor Dalibor Vrsalović, Ph.D., is a prominent engineer, research worker and pragmatic business expert, with years of pedagogic, scientific, technical, operational and international work experience. He has attained his academic and research knowledge at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing of the University of Zagreb and at the Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, USA. He has gained his first-rate professional, scientific and managerial experience by working in a spectrum of companies, from small technology companies with limited financial and human resources to the world's largest conglomerates from the “Fortune 500” group. Dado possesses an international perspective, a deep technical knowledge and a proven talent for establishing and motivating highly productive teams, and boasts recognised technical and business results. He is a sought-after consultant, lecturer and public speaker all around the world.

The technical accomplishments of Mr. Vrsalović are primarily in the area of research and development, and the application of distributed systems and the accompanying program support. Dado possesses a profound knowledge of the field of parallel and distributed systems, mission critical systems, fault tolerance systems, intelligent systems and real-time operating systems. He was one of the pioneers in the research and first commercial applications of parallel and distributed systems and is the author of one of the first “multithreading” program libraries in the world. He co-authored some of the first patents in the field of work distribution and safety on the Internet.

In the early 1990s, for their work in the field of aviation industry and space programme, Dado and his team received an FAA certificate for the construction of systems that are crucial for the management and maintenance of flights. As opposed to commercial computers and program support, such systems and program support require an incomparably higher level of quality, reliability and fault tolerance.

After returning to Croatia, Mr. Vrsalović was made full professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing.
