Indexing and IR

IR models consists of:

- a model of documents (Web objects)

- a model of queries

- a matching function which compares queries to documents (Web objects)

- a knowledge base

Several kinds of knowledge:

- content knowledge

- structural knowledge

- domain knowledge

• Indexing process identifies an implicit knowledge from information and

makes it explicit.

• In order to achieve the desired level of hierarchy organisation, indexing

should follow the logical structure of a document
