Dr. Thomas H. Baker is a Project Leader for Digital Libraries at the German National Research Center for Information Technology (GMD) in Sankt Augustin. He holds a masters in library science from Rutgers University and a PhD in anthropology from Stanford University. In 1995 he co-founded a digital library initiative within the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM) and recently served as European co-leader of the EU-NSF Working Group on Metadata. From 1997 to 1999 he was a visiting faculty at the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok. He is founder and co-leader of the Interest Group on Dublin Core in Multiple Languages, is currently helping to build a RDF-Schema-based registry for the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI), and serves on the DCMI Executive Committee. He is a partner the EU-funded project SCHEMAS (a forum for metadata schema implementors) and leader of the Standardisation Forum of the DELOS Network of Excellence.
