Jerko Ban

Jerko Ban is a Jesuit and he is currently studding theology at the Faculty of Theology of the Society of Jesus in Zagreb where he also works as an e-mail and JMU administrator. He has BA in philosophy from the Faculty of Philosophy of the Society of Jesus in Zagreb. He is an interpreter for the deaf persons, webmaster and he also works on different multimedia projects intended for the education of the deaf persons. In 1999 he started the project "Liturgy in Sign Language" and he was also involved on educational pilot project "Mind and Body". In May 2000 the project "Croatian Sign Language on the Internet" which was originally a part of the project "Liturgy in Sign Language" was selected as one the finalist of the Stockholm Challenge Award. As head of the project he was invited to participate at the Stockholm Challenge Award conference, seminar and prize-giving ceremony. In September 2000 his story on the project "Croatian Sign Language on the Internet" was selected as one of the finalist of the ICT Stories project - an initiative of the International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD) and the Information for Development (infoDev) program of the World Bank. On CARNet Users Conference CUC'99 he was rewarded for the best presentation on the conference by the participants and he was also rewarded with the Special Mentions of the Jury for the website "Croatian Sign Language on the Internet." He participated as organizer and speaker on a number of conferences on issues related to sign language, deafness and deaf blindness
